Currently we are looking to fill the position of Controller in Huntsville, AL.  The Controller is responsible for day to day accounting activities for the company and its subsidiaries, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles; advising company Officers and Program Managers regarding budgets and the business financial growth.​ The Controller will also be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

• Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures;
• Establish, maintain and enforce accounting procedures, internal controls and monthly accounting calendar;
• Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate reporting;
• Prepare and present financials and associated statements/reports; for compliance with all federal, state and local corporate, payroll and other applicable tax issues;
• Manage the accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger and collection function;
• Monitoring and reporting of cash flow to allow for maximum utilization of company resources;
• Perform cash projections to effectively manage cash balances and maximize the return on any excess cash balances;
• Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed;
• Prepare budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans;
• Work with department managers and corporate staff to develop short- and long-range business plans for the company and its subsidiaries;
• Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions and report significant issues to management;
• Coordinate audits with outside independent auditors and regulatory agencies such as DCAA, oversee preparation of required items;
• Support proposal activity and help to create pricing responses to RFP’s and RFQ’s;
• Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations;
• Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, including their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures;
• Review of expenses incurred on behalf of multiple entities such as software costs, accounting services, analytical services, etc;
• Manages finance staff and provides necessary coaching, counseling, and disciple for employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results;
• Assist the Chief Financial Officer/President in administering the company 401-K Plan;
• Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports;
• Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential;
• Other duties as required.

 

Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration, Master’s Degree preferred; or equivalent experience plus at least 7+ years of experience as a Controller with a government contractor;
• CPA or CMA certifications preferred;
• Government contract accounting experience, Cost accounting standards and FAR/​DFARs knowledge, as well as GAAP is required;
• Experience using Deltek, DCAA Compliant software is required;
• Must have solid knowledge of general budgeting principles and practices;
• Strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, income tax and banking working knowledge;
• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel & PowerPoint; Quickbooks;
• FFP, T&M and Cost plus Contracts experience;
• Experience with hands on preparation and review of incurred cost submissions and forward pricing rates;
• Knowledge of federal, state and local financial regulations;
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections;
• Working knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis;
• Experience with financial statement preparation required;
• Responsive team player with ability to quickly prioritize among numerous pressing tasks;
• Task and goal oriented and capable of functioning in an entrepreneurial and corporate setting;
• Prior supervisory experience preferred;
• Must be a fully involved manager and be able to work harmoniously with both employees and other management personnel;
• Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects;
• Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings;
• Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
• Credibility, ethical, full disclosure and clean financial history;
• Confidential, understands the ethical standards of a CPA.
